Chattanooga police arrested 35-year-old Egurtis Butchee earlier this week for child abuse and assault. According to the police report, the victim's school called her mother with concerns because the student was afraid to return home.

Several witnesses, including siblings, attested that Butchee beat the victim in the face and stomach with his fists, a tennis racquet and his belt, then choked her with his hand in early November. Police reported that the victim's face was swollen.

The victim's aunt also stated that Butchee has a history of violence, and court records confirm his involvement in four assault cases in Hamilton County.
