A man who was wanted for attempted first-degree murder after he shot his estranged wife has been arrested in Ringgold, Ga.

James Winnie, 38, was found in the Super 8 Motel in Ringgold and was taken into custody without incident, according to a release from the Chattanooga Police Department. Authorities also found 1 oz of methamphetamine in the hotel room.

Officers were originally dispatched to the 3100 block of 6th avenue for a domestic disturbance call on Saturday. When they arrived, police found the victim, 27-year-old Jessica Winnie suffering from a gunshot wound.

The defendant allegedly drove to the home and started an argument with the victim and her brother which escalated into a shooting.

Her injury was non-life-threatening and she was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect had left the scene before police arrival.

The Chattanooga Police Fugitive Division worked with US Marshals, the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office, and Georgia State patrol to locate and arrest the defendant. He was booked into Catoosa County jail to await transport to Hamilton County.

The defendant is also charged with possession of a firearm and felony reckless endangerment.
