An accidental grease fire at a home in the 7600 block of Austin Drive resulted in a total loss of the home this afternoon.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded with four fire companies at 4:20 p.m. and found that the flames were already shooting through the roof when they first arrived.

The fire displaces two adults, but neither were injured.

According to a release, it took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to get the blaze under control, but by that time the house was a total loss with damages estimated at $85,000.

A resident reportedly told firefighters that she was heating up grease on the stove, but left it unattended.

Battalion Chief Nate Middlebrooks said the grease got hot enough that it burst into flames which spread to other parts of the house.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were brought in to provide assistance to two displaced adults.

CPD, HCEMS, and EPB also provided assistance on scene.
