Cleveland Police Department K9 "Tessa," a police dog originally from the Netherlands that served the department from 2005 to 2011, has died.

She had been "enjoying her relaxation time at home" when she retired along with her handler Brandon West a few years ago.

Born Feb. 25, 2004, Tessa was purchased as a narcotics dog working alongside West after being trained in 2005 by Vohne Liche Kennels, in Denver, Ind.

Tessa began working on the streets in January 2006 and "worked vigorously" at narcotics detection and at demonstrations for public relations purposes, Cleveland police officials said in a statement.

"Tessa had a very sweet demeanor and was loved by all who met her," officials said. "She will be missed greatly."
