A 40-year-old Chattanooga man has been sentenced to roughly 20 years in prison for a 2014 traffic crash that killed a local actor.

Prosecutors said Elgin Horton came hurtling down Central Avenue on Sept. 27, 2014, traveling 84 mph in a 35-mph zone. At a red light, he smashed into the back of an Acura, killing 20-year-old driver Jordan Guess, of Ooltewah.

Horton, who goes by "Duke" and "Lil D," pleaded guilty to eight counts of his indictment in April. On Thursday, before Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Don Poole, he was sentenced on vehicular homicide, reckless aggravated assault, driving on a revoked license, violation of registration law, financial responsibility, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding and driving under the influence.

Most of the charges run consecutively, records show, meaning they stack up and tend to result in more prison time. Horton also faces $550 in court fines and soon will be transferred to the Tennessee Department of Correction, clerks said.
