The 21-year-old man charged with murder in a fatal August drive-by shooting now has an attorney.

Attorney Jay Perry was appointed Thursday to represent Christopher Walton in Hamilton County Criminal Court.

In jail on a $1 million bond, Walton, 21, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a violent felony, aggravated assault, reckless aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Police say Walton was involved in a drive-by attack on Willow Street that killed Jordan Clark, 20, a Rollin 40s Crip. One of the shots went through the wall of a house and struck Vernandus Adair, who was treated at the scene.

The next day, police arrested Walton, a Rollin 20s Blood, and he was indicted in April.

Walton also faces gun and drug possession charges from a separate incident in June 2015. His attorney on those charges, Chris Dixon, was not handling the murder case and said Thursday he had a conflict of interest involving some of the witnesses in the case.

Meanwhile, Walton's mother said her negotiations with another attorney to take the murder case didn't come to fruition.

Criminal Court Judge Don Poole transferred both of Walton's cases to Perry. Walton's next appearance is set for Aug. 24 in Poole's courtroom.
