From the fire on W. 38th St.Two early morning fires started almost simultaneously Wednesday, but in different parts of the city. At 1:15 a.m. and 1:16 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to two different house fires.
The first, located at the 800 block of W. 38th Street, was a vacant house with heavy fire in the front half of teh structure. The inside of the house was engulfed in flames
Firefighters found no one inside, but were forced to spray water on an adjacent house to keep it from catching fire. They were able to get the blaze under control and the loss was estimated at $20,000.
The lead investigator says the fire was intentionally set and the investigation will continue.
The other fire, located at 1123 Cranbrook Drive, was a kitchen fire. An elderly woman, 78, told firefighters a smoke alarm woke her up.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
The woman sustained a non-life-threatening laceration to her leg while making her way out of the house. She was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS.
The cause of the fire has been ruled an accident, with the cause most likely being from an electrical malfunction. The damages are estimated at $65,000.
