UPDATED: Child nearly drowns in Chattanooga

Updated: At 8:16 p.m. Hamilton County 911 received a call about a possible drowning at the Carver Youth and Family Development Center.

Firefighters, police and Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene. Firefighters and a police officer climbed over the fence to get into the pool area, before attempting to give CPR to the victim.

After several minutes of CPR, the victim was transported to a local hospital.

Officers on scene spoke with three individuals, who advised that they were walking by the pool and saw the victim unconscious in the pool, so they climbed the fence and pulled him out.

A young boy nearly drowned Sunday evening after he and some friends climbed the fence to a pool at the Carver Youth & Family Development Center, according to a press release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

The 7-year-old boy nearly drowned before being taken to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition late that night.
