MEMPHIS - A Tennessee judge on Monday ordered famed wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler and his fiancee to stay away from one another following their arrest on domestic violence charges.
The Commercial Appeal reports that the order was among the bond conditions set for the 66-year-old wrestler and Lauryn McBride, his 27-year-old bride-to-be.
"Those are standard bail conditions in a domestic violence case," McBride's attorney Mark Mesler told the newspaper. "No contact, no communicating, no texts, no phone calls."
Lawler declined to comment. Both he and McBride were arraigned separately.
The two were arrested at Lawler's East Memphis home Thursday and face domestic assault charges as police could not determine who the primary aggressor was.
McBride said that the two of them got into an argument that turned violent, according to a police affidavit. McBride said Lawler hit her on the left side of the head and pushed her against a counter. Afterward, she said, the wrestler got an unloaded gun, placed it on the counter and said, "Go ahead and kill yourself."
Lawler, the affidavit states, told police they argued about where McBride had been. He told officers that she was intoxicated and he tried to prevent her from leaving in her vehicle. He said she scratched his face, threw a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. The wrestler told police it was McBride who grabbed the gun and threatened to kill herself.
World Wrestling Entertainment said it suspended Lawler after the incident.
