Attorneys picked a trial date Monday for a 56-year-old woman accused of striking a St. Elmo man in a fatal hit-and-run in December 2012.

Betty Mundy of Trenton, Ga., will stand before jurors Feb. 21, 2017, in Judge Barry Steelman's Hamilton County Criminal Court. She faces charges of reckless aggravated assault, failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter, following too closely and leaving the scene of an accident. Her next court date is Nov. 21.

Police arrested Mundy on Dec. 8, the day after witnesses said a white northbound SUV hit a scooter in the 4400 block of St. Elmo Avenue. The SUV never stopped, witnesses said, while the moped driver, David Bruce, 56, died on the scene.

Not five minutes later, police were called about another accident involving a white SUV at 3812 Tennessee Ave. The vehicle had crashed into another car, then smashed into a telephone pole, police said.

Embedded in the smashed windshield, police said, they found hair matching the moped driver. They also saw prescription bottles of hydrocodone, a painkiller and a muscle relaxer in Mundy's car.

Mundy, meanwhile, was slurring her speech and struggling to stand. She later told police she took two Xanax and two muscle relaxers earlier in the day. She was arrested but posted $5,000 bail.

Although Mundy was named in two separate indictments, the state agreed to consolidate the charges, her attorney, Ben McGowan, said Monday at a brief hearing.
