Chattanooga police are looking for leads in the case of a person who was shot in the head near the Bella Vita restaurant on Cowart Street early Sunday morning.

At 3:20 a.m. officers responded to the 1300 block of Cowart Street on a call about a person shot. When they arrived, they found Reuben Simpson, 35, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, according to a police news release.

Doctors reported his injuries are not life-threatening, the release stated.

Bella Vita staff provided information about the victim and a suspect, both of whom they said had been at the restaurant, and police detained one man.

After investigators spoke with him, they determined he was not involved in the shooting and he was released.
