East Brainerd carjacking suspect arrested in Georgia

Police responded to the 2000 block of Gunbarrel Road about 6:25 a.m. Wednesday on the report of a carjacking, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

The victim, Michael Spector, 64, said he was driving west on East Brainerd Road and was approaching the intersection with Gunbarrel Road when a man ran from the side of the road and approached his vehicle.

The suspect, Gregory S. Sholtz, 25, said he had been hit by a car and needed a ride to the emergency room.

Sholtz opened the victim's passenger door and jumped into his truck and insisted he take him to Erlanger hospital. The suspect then told Spector he had a gun and would shoot him if he didn't get out of the truck.

Sholtz left the area driving south on Gunbarrel Road in the victim's 2012 Dodge Ram 2500.

A short time later Georgia State Patrol located the vehicle and pursued it. They were able to catch the suspect who is facing charges in Georgia.

Sholtz will be extradited to Tennessee following due process.
