After working overnight to correct a glitch that plagued the Gig City for much of Saturday, EPB reported on Sunday morning that service had been restored to all customers.

The utility pinned the problem on what it called a manufacturer's defect with an unspecified piece of equipment that had been installed during routine maintenance.

The faulty equipment caused a glitch that knocked out or slowed Internet for thousands of customers across Chattanooga, though the total number of those affected remains unknown, the utility said. EPB said about 2,000 NextNet customers contacted the utility to complain about the Internet outage.

Spokesman John Pless released a written statement at 9:51 a.m. saying that connectivity had been restored to all customers overnight.

"After getting everyone back on last night, EPB Network Engineers worked through the night to adjust the network," Pless wrote. "If customers are still experiencing problems they can re-set their router."

EPB has about 82,000 customers in the Chattanooga area.
