A woman was shot as she slept in bed on Sunday morning by a gunshot that originated from outside the house, police said.

The wound was not life-threatening, and she was transported to the hospital.

Police initially responded at 6:45 a.m. to the 3100 block of 15th Avenue to investigate a shots fired call. While investigating the shots fired call, they were flagged down by a bystander who alerted them that Stacie Carter, 42, had been hit by gunfire.

Carter was unable to provide any information about who shot her, police said.

She was the second person shot on Monther's Day, after a Bella Vita security guard was shot and killed earlier in a scuffle with a customer.

Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this crime to call 423-698-2525.
