One suspect is in custody after a high speed chase up Suck Creek Mountain that only ended when deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office used spike strips to pop the car's tires.

Matt Lea, a spokesman for the HCSO, said the chase began as a routine traffic stop on Signal Mountain Road when the suspect refused to stop and sped off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies followed the car to the top of Suck Creek Mountain, but the suspect then turned around and started driving back down the mountain, turning onto River Canyon Road toward Marion County. The car then turned around again and headed back toward Suck Creek Road.

While the suspect was driving back on River Canyon Road, deputies deployed spike strips and disabled 3 of the car's tires causing the car to stop. Authorities were then able to take the driver into custody without incident.

According to a press release from the HCSO, the driver "has an extensive record and will be charged with driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, and evading arrest."

More charges may be filed according to the results of an ongoing investigation.
