Customers at a Rossville Boulevard adult cinema reported hearing "a loud boom" and smelling smoke this evening, according to fire officials.
At the scene, Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright said eight fire companies responded to the incident.
Hamilton County 911 received a commercial fire call at 6:11 p.m., he said.
Boatwright said firefighters encountered heavy smoke outside the building and an interior blaze, which they had under control by 6:25 p.m.
No injuries were reported and the dollar amount of damage is not available yet, Boatwright said.
The incident is under investigation.

At least six Chattanooga fire trucks have responded to a fire at an adult cinema in the 4100 block of Rossville Boulevard this evening.
No exterior flames were visible as of 7 p.m.
At this time department officials have not commented on the situation. Police are currently rerouting Rossville Boulevard traffic.
Fire department vehicles began to depart around 7:10 p.m.
