The westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in Cumberland County are closed after a massive crash that killed three people and left the wrecked vehicles blazing.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the crash happened at 1:57 p.m. near mile marker 320.

WATE -TV in Knoxville quoted the Tennessee Highway Patrol saying an eastbound truck tractor with no trailer crossed into the westbound lanes, striking a tractor trailer hauling automobiles and a passenger vehicle.

All three drivers were killed in the crash, according to WATE.

As of 7 p.m., TDOT said the westbound roadway is closed and traffic is being diverted at Peavine Road, exit 322. Eastbound traffic is delayed.
