A family of eight will be spending the holidays away from their home today because of a fire this morning at their residence in Hixson, according to a Hamilton County Emergency Services news release.
A 911 call was made about 10 a.m. reporting a house fire at the 300 block of Delores Drive. The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and firefighters arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke and fire coming from the right side of the home. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to one room.
The homeowner, Keith Hartman, said his grandson woke him up and told him the playroom was on fire. Three adults and five children escaped the home without injuries.
Fire officials reported damages listed at $3,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family with their immediate needs.
