No kids were on school bus that hit pedestrian on Brainerd Road

A Hamilton County school bus hit a pedestrian today on Brainerd Road, according to police.

The incident happened at about 3:20 p.m. in the 4900 block of Brainerd Road. There were no students on board, police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said.

The pedestrian suffered injuries that are not life-threatening when the pedestrian walked out into traffic, she said. She could not immediately say whether the pedestrian was male or female.

The accident comes exactly a week after a school bus crashed Talley Road and killed six Woodmore Elementary School students.

A witness to the incident said she saw a man crossing the road on a red light. As he crossed the road, the traffic light changed to green, but the man kept walking. He put his hands out to try to get oncoming traffic - which had a green light - to stop as he finished crossing, she said. The witness declined to give her name.

The driver, Waqueta D. Foster, 29, said the pedestrian crossed in between stopped vehicles traveling southbound outside the crosswalk. She tried to swerve left when the pedestrian crossed in front of her but the school bus struck the pedestrian while in the turning lane, she said.
