Students at Beaverdale Elementary School are back in class this morning after maintenance personnel corrected a problem that led to a gas leak in the building, according to a news release.

Shortly after arriving at the school after Thanksgiving break, students were put on buses at the edge of the campus to stay warm while maintenance personnel and the Whitfield County Fire Department investigated the odor.

Assistant Principal Darlene Cartwright said the smell was strongest near the cafeteria.

A propane tank recently refilled was found to be empty. After an air quality check, students were released to their classes.
