ATLANTA - A tornado warning has been issued in northwest Georgia as storms continue to sweep through parts of the southern region.

The National Weather Service issued the warning Wednesday for counties including Carroll, Haralson and Paulding. The weather service says the warning is expected to last until 1:30 p.m.

A tornado watch was issued to more than 50 counties including Fulton, Cobb and Gwinnett. It should expire at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A warning indicates a tornado is expected to develop. A watch means there is a favorable chance for a tornado to develop within the next few hours.

Five people were killed and more than a dozen were injured as a suspected tornado swept across parts of Alabama and Tennessee early Wednesday.
