A bar that was the scene of a homicide over the weekend has been temporarily closed and could be permanently shut down if the owner doesn't get the facility up to city code, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The owner of Jay's Bar on Wilder Street met with the city's code enforcement department Tuesday, police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said.

"A slew" of small code violations on the interior and exterior of the building were identified, according to Myzal.

The bar will be closed until an issue with the locks on the outside door is fixed.

Jay's Bar will have a total of 30 days to get the other code issues fixed, or else it could be permanently closed, according to Myzal.

A phone call to Jay's Bar was not immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.

Jimmy McCane, 33 was shot at the venue early Sunday morning.

Police chief Fred Fletcher said Monday that McCane was an innocent bystander in a dispute that erupted at the bar. Kristy Foster, 39, was also shot during the incident, but her injuries were non-life threatening.

The shooting at Jay's Bar was one of four shootings involving seven victims over the weekend.

Hamilton County Property Assessor records show Jay's Bar is 1,530 square foot building that was built around 1940.
