A lightning strike has damaged a Mowbray Mountain home and temporarily displaced its family this evening.

Hamilton County Emergency Services reports lightning struck the home, located at the 1100 block of Montlake Road, as a thunderstorm rolled through the Soddy-Daisy area. The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident at 8:40 p.m.

"Fire officials confirmed lightning had struck the eaves at the corner of the home and blew off the soffit and the interior sheetrock in an upstairs bedroom," agency spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said in the statement.

Damages have been estimated at $5,000 to $7,000. The lightning strike has caused electrical problems at the home, but no one was injured.

The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department stood by the Mowbray fire station for additional emergency calls.
