Chattanooga police arrest man in connection to July 26 homicide

Chattanooga police arrested a man today in connection with the shooting death of Desmond Clay last month.

Desmond Trammell, 20, has been charged with criminal homicide, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. He is being booked into the Hamilton County Jail.

On July 26, Clay, 39, was found in a vehicle suffering from a multiple gunshot wounds on the 3300 block of Wilcox Boulevard at 10:18 p.m. The vehicle had crashed into a nearby business. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injures.

Clay was also the victim of a shooting on April 22, 2016. He was shot outside his home on the 6200 block of Wimberly Drive shortly before 1 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police listed two black males as suspects in that shooting, one with dreads.

Trammell has an arrest record in Hamilton County dating back to 2015, according to Times Free Press records. Most of his previous charges include driving on a suspended or revoked license and criminal trespassing.
