Want more two-way streets in downtown Chattanooga?

Love those one-ways?

Either way, the city's transportation department wants to hear what the public thinks.

A public input meeting is set for Thursday so people can learn more about the usefulness and feasibility of turning more of Chattanooga's downtown streets into two-ways.

The city's study arises out of a 2014 report by Chattanooga Forward's Downtown Task Force. Multiple recommendations came from that report, including increasing workforce housing; refocusing on the public realm; filling downtown office space; protecting and encouraging existing and new development; and enhancing transportation and parking options.

The task force encouraged two-way conversions to increase safety and improve connectivity downtown.

The streets under study include:

» East Fifth, between Market Street and Georgia Avenue

» Sixth between Chestnut and Georgia

» Seventh between Pine and Georgia

» Eighth, between Chestnut and Houston

» Walnut, from Fifth to Georgia

» Lindsay and Houston, from Vine to Market

The kickoff public meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Development Resource Center, 1250 Market St., Room 1A.

The public is encouraged to attend.
