Catoosa County Deputy Tyler Morton died Wednesday night due to complications from an illness.
Morton was an 11-year veteran of the department, working as a detention officer, patrol officer, court services officer, K-9 handler and corporal, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
"Deputy Morton was not only an employee," Sheriff Gary Sisk said in a news release, "but a friend that was loved by all that knew him. ... The sheriff's office is in mourning and in prayer for his family and we ask that the community do the same. The outpouring of condolences is appreciated."
On Wednesday morning, County Manager Jim Walker wrote that Morton, 32, was in intensive care at Erlanger Health System. He asked for prayers.
"The situation is dire," he wrote on the local government's Facebook page. "The doctor's and nurses are doing everything they can. ... Should the family have unmet needs, Sheriff Sisk will let us know how and what we can contribute."
