An unidentified man died this morning after a Hixson duplex caught fire, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Authorities are still working to identify the deceased man, spokesman Chris Warren said.

He was transported to Erlanger and pronounced dead.

The call came in at 7:17 a.m., most likely from a family of four next door who escaped the flames, Warren said.

Trucks responded to 4605 Plaza Hills Lane about two minutes later and worked to contain the fire to one side of the duplex.

Authorities don't know how the fire started, but they believe it originated on the deceased man's side, Warren said.
