Man arrested for pulling a gun during a dispute over a boat

A Summerville man was arrested after a man and woman said he pointed a gun at them during a dispute about a boat.

According to a Chattooga County Sheriff's Office incident report, the man and woman went to Jimmy Dale Collins' house on Roberts Street on Jan. 14 to get their boat back. But when they got there, Collins pulled out his gun.

"I hate you," he allegedly said. "I'm going to kill you."

A couple of Collins' relatives disputed this version of events. One said that the man Collins was arguing with actually threatened to destroy Collins' shed with a hammer. Another relative said Collins pulled out the gun. But he couldn't have shot the man: A relative stood in between. Plus, the relative said, Collins never made any threats.

Summerville police also came to the house that night. They separated the two sides and took Collins' gun. According to the incident report, Collins admitted to pulling out the gun during the dispute.

Around the same time, Collins said he was having a heart problem. Paramedics responded to the scene and took him to a hospital.

But on Thursday, officers booked Collins in the Chattooga County Jail on a charge of pointing a gun at others.
