Burned body in Whitfield County identified

Medical examiners in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab identified the body of man found in the woods last month.

In a news release, Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said the body was that of Luis Antonio Lopez, 26, of Nashville. Lopez's parents reported that he was missing soon after a 13-year-old boy found the body at the end of Ellis Road on Jan. 10.

"Investigators believe Mr. Lopez may have been murdered in Tennessee and the suspects involved drove him to our area to dispose of the body," Chitwood said in the release.

The sheriff's office, the GBI, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and other Tennessee law enforcement agencies are still investigating the case.

"Significant information has been developed," Chitwood said.
