One motorist rang in the New Year in bizarre fashion just after midnight Sunday morning.
A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe crashed on Dupont Parkway after it had been reportedly traveling the wrong direction on the road.
The driver then left the Tahoe and was crawling across Amnicola Highway when they were struck by a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office cruiser, according to preliminary details from Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The Tahoe driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to THP.
Authorities have not released the name of the Tahoe driver or of the deputy who struck the person.
The Tahoe driver was wearing dark clothing and was not visible to drivers on Amnicola Highway, a statement from Tennessee Highway Patrol said.
An investigation into the incident remained active Sunday night.
Sheriff's office spokesman Matt Lea said in a statement that no internal action has been taken against the deputy.
"At this time, The HCSO is awaiting the completed THP report/investigation," the statement said. "Once it is received, it will be thoroughly reviewed internally through normal policies and procedures."
