The Catoosa County Sheriff's Office shut down Potts Road this afternoon during a police chase.

The road was closed around 2:30 p.m. as investigators tried to find Wesley Gage Weldon, whom the sheriff's department has arrested multiple times in the last two years. It's not clear why Weldon is wanted today.

Catoosa County Schools Spokeswoman Marissa Brower said an emergency management worker from the local 911 department called the school system this afternoon, informing them that the road was closed and a school bus driver would have to take an alternate route.

Brower said only one elementary school student who rides the bus actually lives on Potts Road. A member of the school system called the child's parent, and they figured out a different way for the child to get home.

By the time the middle and high schools let out around 3:30, Brower said, the sheriff's office had re-opened Potts Road.

Sheriff Gary Sisk said around 4:45 p.m. that Weldon managed to get away during an earlier pursuit. Weldon has been arrested twice in the last two years.
In 2015, investigators said they found methamphetamine inside his house on Potts Road. Last year, they arrested Weldon on a charge of aggravated assault after he was accused of shooting a friend.

Weldon's brother, Tom Weldon, a lawyer and former state representative, said this afternoon that he could not confirm anything about the case at this point.
