A 44-year-old East Ridge man charged with stabbing a sheriff's deputy during an incident Monday has been extradited to Walker County.

James Allen Johnson was moved from the Hamilton County Jail to Walker County on Wednesday, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said.

On Monday evening, police responded to an officer-involved shooting on Caldonia Street in Rossville, Ga., Wilson said. Cpl. J.D. Holland had fired twice at Johnson, shooting him in the leg and abdomen. This was after Johnson used a large-blade knife to stab Holland twice in the thigh and once in the forearm, Wilson said. Holland and Johnson were taken to Erlanger hospital. Holland's wounds were described as not life-threatening.

Johnson waived extradition to Georgia in his first appearance Wednesday in Hamilton County, according to a news release.

He was booked and charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and violation of parole - he had been released from prison in May 2016.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the assault.
