State troopers arrest suspect in fatal Coffee County hit-and-run

State troopers on Tuesday arrested the suspected driver in a fatal hit-and-run in Coffee County, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol news release.

The pedestrian was struck and killed Monday while checking his mailbox off U.S. Highway 41. A side mirror matching an older model Mitsubishi Galant was found at the scene along with other vehicle debris. The suspect's vehicle was also caught on surveillance video near the scene of the incident.

The highway patrol received information Tuesday that the suspect and vehicle were at 140 Alva Jones Road in Warren County. Troopers from the Cookeville District were notified of the tip, and were dispatched to the residence to make contact with the driver and secure the vehicle.

The suspect, Shelton G. Martin II, of Smithville, was taken into custody and taken to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office.
