The body of a missing Soddy-Daisy teenage boy was found early Wednesday by Hamilton County deputies near the bottom of a bluff on Legget Road in Sale Creek, Tenn.

The teen was reported missing on Tuesday night, according to a press release by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Matt Lea, public information officer for the Hamilton County Sheriff's office, declined to comment due to the active investigation.

Soddy-Daisy High School Principal Steve Henry released a statement Wednesday morning regarding the incident.

"A tragedy affected our Soddy- Daisy High School family," he wrote. "As you may have heard, a 10th grade student was found early this morning. Law enforcement tells us he was found near a bluff on the Cumberland Trail. We have extra support staff available to our student body today, and will keep the extra counselors in place as long as they are needed. Please keep our school family in your thoughts and prayers."

People took to social media throughout the day to express their feelings.

Amanda Tate wrote on a Facebook group called Soddy-Daisy Grapevine, "As we go through our busy days today, we need to remember this young man's family and friends in our thoughts and prayers. Our kids at SDHS walked in to school hearing some horrible news this morning and a lot of people are mourning."

A fellow student shared what the state of the atmosphere of the school was like.

"The whole school is so quiet right now.. So many of us are crying and just can't believe it. He is supposed to be in my first block ," wrote Tapanga Satterfield in a comment on a post asking for an update about the missing teen in the same Facebook group.
