Hamilton County Schools has announced a new program aimed at getting community members involved in the school district - the Leadership Hamilton County Schools program.

"Leadership Hamilton County Schools will broaden participants' knowledge of the school district, increase the number and effectiveness of education advocates in the community, equip community leaders to respond to the challenges faced by Hamilton County Schools and public education, and provide connections to community leaders," according to a news release.

The program, modeled after Leadership Chattanooga, is open to all residents of Hamilton County who are at least 21 years old. Tuition for the program is $100. It will run from Sept. 18, 2018 ,to April 16, 2019. Sessions will be held on topics such as the school district's vision and budget, effective operations, Future Ready students and more.

Applications are avaliable online and must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6. An application review committee will review all applications and select up to 20 participants for the class, according to a news release.
