Motorcyclist dies in crash

CALHOUN, Ga. - A Calhoun, Ga., man died early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash, police said.

In a news release, Calhoun police said Michael Bynum was riding a motorcycle west on Harris Beamer Road around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of the bike and was thrown off.

He was pronounced dead at Gordon County Hospital. The investigation continues, the release states.

Forklift drivers sought

LAFAYETTE, Ga. - A job fair set for July 11 will help fill positions with a major automotive supplier in Chattanooga, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The Manpower agency will seek to hire 20 forklift drivers at the fair, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LaFayette Career Center, 200 W. Villanow St. Applicants 18 or older and have at least one year of experience operating a forklift.

Job seekers can visit to create an account and upload or prepare a resume. Applicants should bring their resumes and driver's licenses and dress business casual to improve their chances to be hired.

ESL camp set

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Lee University's English Language Center is offering a free English as a Second Language camp for children starting in grades one through six. The camp will be held July 9-13 from 9 a.m. -2:45 p.m. in Lee's Walker Memorial Building.

It will focus on writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills through interactive crafts and activities. All non-native English-speaking children are welcome to attend. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily. Enrollment is limited to 30 children, so early registration is encouraged.

Wife killed, husband hurt in pre-dawn shooting

RAGLAND, Ala. - A woman has been killed and her husband injured in an early-morning shooting in Alabama's St. Clair County.

Assistant Sheriff Billy Murray said deputies were dispatched at 2 a.m. Thursday to a home in Ragland. reported they arrived to find Victoria Lyn Deputy, 49, dead in a back room and Billy James Deputy, 51, in the front of the house with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Murray said Bruce E. Bates Jr., 26, has been arrested on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
