Fire late Sunday damages Red Bank home, owner escapes injury

A Red Bank homeowner escaped without injuries in a fire on Old Trail Sunday evening.

According to a spokesperson, the homeowner had been cooking in the kitchen when grease in a pan caught fire.

The first firefighters on the scene reported heavy smoke coming from the eaves and attic, officials said.

"The fire traveled to the attic area and spread very quickly," Red Bank Lt. Talley Glover said in the statement.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire and save 60 percent of the home, officials said.

The rest of the home, however, was severely damaged and the loss is estimated at about $70,000, officials said.

Walden's Ridge Emergency Services, Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department and Chattanooga Fire Department responded to the fire scene to assist, officials said. Signal Mountain and East Ridge fire departments covered Red Bank fire stations for additional emergency calls.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, officials said.
