A zip line course and challenge area opened this weekend at Camp Jordan thanks to a partnership between outdoor education and recreation company The Adventure Guild and the city of East Ridge.

The area, known as the Adventure Center, will be completed in multiple phases. The completed phase one includes a challenge course, which features climbing structures and ropes, and side-by-side zip lines. The center will expand to include additional challenge courses.

"This exciting ride will be a great addition to the facilities at Camp Jordan and will be one more adventure to have at this amazing park," according to a statement from The Adventure Guild. "We are thrilled with the possibilities growing out of this partnership with the City of East Ridge and Camp Jordan."

The zip lines involve climbing a 40-foot tower and a 550-foot ride down to the landing platform in the field near the walking track at the north end of Camp Jordan Park.

The zip lines will be open Saturdays from 1-6 p.m. for $19.95. Groups of four or more receive a $4 discount per person. The Challenge Course is designed for team-building exercises and can be booked ahead of time by emailing phil@theadventureguild.com.

"Really and truly, this is going to be a win, not only for citizens, but for people visiting the city of East Ridge," city community involvement coordinator Amanda Bowers said. "We have a lot of recreation down at the park at Camp Jordan, but not everyone has children who play in sports. We want to give a variety of options for people to enjoy while they're here."

The community will also be adding updated playground equipment and a splash pad at Pioneer Frontier Park. The upgrades will be funded by a $500,000 state grant and $500,000 in matching funds.
