Tuesday marks 17 years since the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. in which nearly 3,000 people were killed.

The day is now observed as Patriot Day.

LOCAL PROGRAMS

Chattanooga

' 10:30-11:30 a.m.: The Scenic City Women's Network is holding a prayer walk through downtown at 10:30 a.m. Participants are asked to gather on the Seventh Street side of the Hamilton County Courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave. www.scwn.org/patriot-day-911

' 12-12:45 p.m.: City and county leaders will lead a Patriot Day program at the Hamilton County Courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave.

Walker County, Ga.

' 8:30 a.m.: Walker County Emergency Services will hold a 9/11 remembrance service on the steps of the Walker County Courthouse, 103 S. Duke St. in LaFayette.

' 5:30 p.m.: The Walker County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Cities on Our Knees program to remember the fallen at the Walker County Civic Center, 10052 Highway 27 in Rock Spring.

Whitfield County, Ga.

' 6:30 p.m.: The Whitfield County Republican Party will host Darren Webb, resident agent in charge of Homeland Security in Dalton and former Secret Service special agent, during a special 9/11 meeting.

LOCAL OFFERS

' Mission BBQ, 1926 Gunbarrel Road: First responders will receive a free sandwich from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. There will be a performance of the national anthem at noon. www.mission-bbq.com
