A Hamilton County Jail inmate was found unresponsive Sunday morning, the sheriff's office confirms.
The inmate was taken to a local hospital for treatment where it was determined the inmate had been in an "altercation" with a cellmate, "which may account for the inmate's medical condition," according to a news release.
The sheriff's office did not clearly state if the altercation led to the inmate's injuries.
The inmate is listed in critical condition, the news release states.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Hamilton County sheriff's criminal investigations division.
