Emergency personnel responded to one of the area's most popular hiking trails where a 12-year-old girl fell off a boulder and hit her head Easter evening.

Witnesses who alerted 911 operators of the incident said the girl was climbing on a boulder, getting her picture taken by adult family members and enjoying a hike on the trail from Signal Point when they passed early Sunday evening.

The girl was climbing down when she fell and landed on her head, the witnesses said. She was alert but not talking at the time, they said. They didn't see the fall but were at the scene and alerted 911 operators to their location.

The girl fell from about 9 feet, according to a release from a Hamilton County Emergency Services spokesperson, and was conscious and alert during the evacuation.

Responders got the girl off the steep trail in about an hour and a half. She was transported to Children's Hospital at Erlanger.
