A woman driving on a wet Ochs Highway down Lookout Mountain was critically injured Monday morning when she lost control of her Volvo on a curve, slid across the double-yellow line and was struck by a Freightliner truck on its way up, police said.

Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Trevor Tomas said the Freightliner, driven by George Dews, 25, hit the Volvo on the passenger side and pushed it into a ditch in the 500 block of Ochs Highway. The truck also went in the ditch.

Chattanooga Fire Department personnel extricated Rachel Tucker, 42, from the Volvo. She was taken by emergency medical services to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition, police said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
