Motorists are restricted to one lane on a section of Nickajack Road while land there is being stabilized, a news release states.
A portable red-light system has been installed to keep traffic flowing until the work is done, Walker County, Georgia, public relations director Joe Legge said in the release. There is no timetable for completion of the work, which is about two miles up the road from the intersection with Highway 193.
In the last two years the county and the state have spent nearly $2 million on safety enhancements to Nickajack Road, Legge said. It has been completely resurfaced and reflective striping, center line reflectors, rumble strips and signs have been added.
