Community meeting on rezoning in Ooltewah on Feb. 5

Hamilton County Schools will hold a community meeting regarding the redistricting of some students from Ooltewah Elementary to Snow Hill Elementary on Tuesday.

The meeting will allow parents to view the redistricting plan and view an artist's rendering of additions and upgrades to the building at Snow Hill Elementary, according to the district.

The addition to the school is one of several projects outlined in a 2017 building plan by Johnson that utilizes an additional $110 million in bond funds provided by the Hamilton County Commission.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at Snow Hill Elementary School, 9042 Career Lane, Ooltewah.

Superintendent to give State of the System address

Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Bryan Johnson will hold a State of the System address at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, 865 East Third St.

The community is invited to attend the event, where Johnson will update the district's successes and progress since he took over leadership of the district in 2017.

The event will feature performances by the Normal Park Jazz Band, the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences Show Choir, and acting students from the new theater program at The Howard School. Students' projects from Future Ready Institutes in the high schools, student-built electric cars and STEM projects will also be on display at the school, according to a news release.

The event will be in the CSAS auditorium. Parking will be available around and behind the school.

Lee University students volunteer at local school

Lee University psychology students, along with professor Heather Quagliana, recently volunteered at Prospect Elementary School in Bradley County. The Lee students completed art projects with the children to help teach emotional labeling and coping. This hands-on work allowed Quagliana's students to 'put their psychology skills into action,' according to a news release.

Quagliana has partnered with Beth Sargent's class at Prospect Elementary for the past four years with several of Quagliana's capstone and childhood disorders classes.

"One of the most important aspects of my job at Lee is to teach my students to live a life of service and to show them the practical ways psychology can serve our Cleveland and Bradley County community," Quagliana said in a statement.
