Students commit to TCAT on national signing day

On Feb. 21, 50 area high school seniors took part in Chattanooga State's Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) program's third annual CTE National Signing Day.

The students took a step closer to their future by committing to the TCAT program this fall.

"This event marks an important day in the lives of these students. It is the beginning of their careers and bright futures as well as being an important day for our community and workforce as it means more employees for in-demand jobs. I am so proud that Chattanooga State and TCAT play an important role in the lives of our students and the future of our community," said Rebecca Ashford, president of Chattanooga State, according to a news release.

Local elected officials, school leaders and industry professionals celebrated the students, who are all guaranteed a spot in the program of their choosing this upcoming academic year.

The programs students committed to include automotive, cosmetology, industrial maintenance, mechatronics and welding.

Shepherd Elementary; Galilea Bautista, Spring Creek Elementary; Kimora Reid, Spring Creek Elementary; Daniel Tomlinson, Hixson Middle School; Jaylen Holmes, Washington Alternative Learning Center; Annika Love, Chattanooga High School Center of the Creative Arts; and Lillie Beth Myers, Washington Alternative Learning Center.
