Groups to host workshop on trauma, toxic stress

WTCI, the Chattanooga 2.0 Early Matters Coalition and United Way of Greater Chattanooga will host a two-day screening workshop event on Jan. 25-26 for educators, service providers and caregivers about adverse childhood experiences, commonly known as ACEs.

A 1998 study on ACES found a strong relationship between repeated exposure to abuse or household dysfunction during childhood to poor academic performance, poor health in adulthood and other significant negative life outcomes.

The two-day event will include screenings of the documentary "Building Strong Brains: ACEs, The Tennessee Story" as well as breakout sessions and discussions about the topic.

"Working with these partners to make this powerful series available to educators and service providers is an important part of our mission to serve as a hub of discourse," said Paul Grove, president and CEO of WTCI, in a statement. "WTCI has proudly served the Tennessee Valley for nearly fifty years and as our community changes, we are honored to share meaningful conversations,"

Up to 140 guests can attended the event. Reservations are available online at https://tinyurl.com/ybt6tz4x.

Every student at the school will be able to participate in the project through science classes, thanks to the funds provided, according to a press release.

BASF employees will mentor and guide students through creating artwork on various animals, while learning about each species and its habitat. At the end of the STEM project, each student will receive a picture book and the story created with BASF mentors.
