Crash kills one, injures two Tuesday in Polk County, Tennessee

A 58-year-old Benton, Tennessee, woman was killed and two others were injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-car crash on state Highway 314 near the woman's hometown.

Deloris A. Stewart was killed when her southbound 2004 Nissan Maxima collided with a Dodge Caravan driven by 65-year-old Mildred D. Seal, of Andrews, North Carolina, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The driver of the Dodge was injured.

A passenger in the Dodge, 64-year-old Bill H. Seal Jr., also of Andrews, was injured in the crash.

According to THP, Stewart was traveling south about 1:50 p.m. on Highway 314 and the Seals were headed the opposite direction when Stewart's car crossed the center line and struck the Seals' Dodge head on.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, THP said.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to Tennova Hospital in Cleveland, Tennessee, and the passenger was transported to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.

There was no word on their conditions.
