Memorial service, candle vigil planned Saturday for Sandy the Flower Man

A memorial service and candle vigil is planned Saturday, Feb 2, for Oterius Bell, also known as Sandy the Flower Man, according to a news release from Andy Santoro Dailey with Partnership for Families, Children and Adults.

The service will begin at 4:15 p.m. at John Henry Visual and Performing Arts Center at 1100 East 16th St. The candle vigil will begin at 5:15 at the Sculpture Fields at 1800 Polk St., according to the news release.

Public officials, Sandy's family and the Chattanooga community will share stories at the service about Sandy, who "brought beauty and color to our town for decades," the release states.

A Sandy "The Flower Man" Award has been set up and the inaugural recipient will be Sandy. His sister, Harriet Sills, will accept the award on his behalf and in representation of his family.

Parking will be available at Lot 1 1800 Polk St. and Lot 2 1550 Gulf St.
