The Hamilton County Commission on Wednesday voted down the controversial rezoning of a plot of land on Snow Hill Road.

KSM Developing Company's proposed 453-home development off Snow Hill Road in the growing Ooltewah areahas been met with resistance by several residents and business owners in the area concerned about added traffic and infrastructure problems.

After failing to get a majority vote on the issue last week, the commission voted 5-4 Wednesday to block the rezoning.

Though the motion failed without any comment this week amid a hectic vote against the proposed county property tax increase, District 9 Commissioner Chester Bankston came out against the development in his district.

Bankston argued the layout of the development makes for a much more dense property than it seems on paper.

"That's why I did it. I'm the one who made a motion [to deny the rezoning] and that's why," he said. "[Supporting this] was a misunderstanding on my part and I take the blame for that."
