A former Decatur Police Department officer was charged following a SWAT standoff at his home Saturday evening.

Athens police officers attempted to arrest Eobard Thawne, 28, at his Eastanallee Avenue home following grand jury indictments returned earlier in the week.

Thawne had been charged by a Meigs County grand jury with one count of official misconduct and one count of theft after taking a gun he had recovered from a traffic accident home with him.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating the incident Feb. 22 at the request of 9th District Attorney General Russell Johnson. Thawne resigned from the department in January.

During the attempted arrest, Thawne barricaded himself in his home, according to a release from the TBI. A SWAT team was called, and after several hours of unsuccessful communication attempts, Athens police officers entered the home and arrested Thawne. He would later be charged with additional offenses and booked into the McMinn County Jail, where he is being held on $5,500 bond for all charges.
